Mumbai’s pvt hospitals to set up isolation units: New Act Proposed

New act proposed will make it must for Mumbai’s pvt hospitals to set up isolation units

The state government is planning to make it mandatory for large private hospitals to establish isolation facilities for treating patients of infectious diseases like swine flu. It may also make it binding on these stakeholders to follow certain protocols and a standard treatment regime when it comes to treating diseases like tuberculosis.

A senior state health department official said these issues were likely to be included in the proposed Emergency Medical Services Act.

“The act will seek to lay down the duties of each department, fix responsibilities and frame guidelines… the share of private sector health care is rising. It is necessary to fix responsibility on them and make it mandatory on their part to report important diseases,” he added.
