Major Action Against Pan Shops Within 100 Meters of Schools and Colleges in Pune; 19 Shops Removed

Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have launched a strict crackdown on pan shops selling tobacco products and cigarettes near schools and colleges. Orders were issued by the police administration to act against such stalls operating within a 100-meter radius of educational institutions. Accordingly, a total of 19 pan shops were removed across various police station jurisdictions under Zone-1.

Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, Joint Police Commissioner Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sarang Awad, and Additional Commissioner of Police (Regional Division) Basavaraj Teli instructed all police stations under the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate to target shops selling tobacco products and cigarettes within 100 meters of schools and colleges.

Following these orders, the Anti-Encroachment Department of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation carried out the operation under police protection. Action was taken against three shops under Nigdi Police Station jurisdiction, two in Chinchwad, six in Sant Tukaram Nagar, three in Dapodi, and five under Sangvi Police Station jurisdiction, bringing the total number of removed stalls to 19.

This action aims to ensure that tobacco, cigarettes, and other addictive substances are not easily accessible to students, while safeguarding public health and student safety.

The drive was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone-1 Sandeep Atole, along with respective Assistant Commissioners of Police and senior officers from the concerned police stations. Police clarified that such operations will continue in the future to maintain law and order, prioritizing citizens’ health and safety.
