Pune: A video from Rahul Gandhi’s Pune event “Chhatron Ki Goonj”  has gone viral on social media. The clip shows a young student giving Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi a peck on the cheek after he posed for selfies with attendees.

The video shows Gandhi posing for the selfie with the girl students and then interacting with them. Gandhi then waves towards the crowd, and while going back, a student holds him by his cheek before kissing him on the cheek. Gandhi then briefly interacts with the student and shakes hands with her before walking off the stage with his bodyguards. The video has garnered more than 245.2K views on X.

In his address to the students, Gandhi criticised what he described as a “Manusmriti mindset” and called for women to challenge the patriarchal attitudes. The central theme of the interaction was women’s independence and the different forms of control they face in everyday life.

Rahul Gandhi’s larger message in his address was that “women’s empowerment must mean ownership of one’s own life, economically, professionally and personally.” meanwhile Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and MP from Pune, Murlidhar Mohol, on Saturday reacted to “Chhatron Ki Goonj”, saying that it “won’t achieve anything.”

Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol says, “This won’t achieve anything because he is already touring the entire country anyway, yet it is having no real impact. I believe the people of Pune have consistently voted based on performance and placed their trust in the work done—specifically under PM Modi’s leadership… How people are being brought there, the money being distributed, and the payments made to influencers. I don’t think this needs to be taken too seriously…”
