The new police commissioner for Navi Mumbai, Hemant Nagrale, took charge of the office on late Friday evening. Nagrale, from 1987 IPS batch, has taken over from top cop Prabhat Ranjan of the 1984 IPS batch.
Ranjan has been promoted and posted as Director General (Legal & Technical) in place of Meera Borwankar.
Nagrale,who is the Additional Director General of police rank, was previously posted as the chief vigilance officer at Mhada.
In the state government’s recent order of promotion and transfer of thirteen senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers at the rank of Director General of Police (DGP) and Additional Director General of Police (ADG), Navi Mumbai commissioner of police Prabhat Ranjan has been promoted as DGP.
According to sources, the batch 1984 IPC officer Ranjan who was serving as the Navi Mumbai commissioner of police has been promoted to the rank of Director General of Police (legal and technical). Ranjan has been replaced by Hemant Nagrale, (IPS,1987) who was serving as the additional ADG and Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO), Maharashtra Housing And Area Development Authority MHADA.
Ranjan took charge as Navi Mumbai police commissioner in June 2015. During his eleven months tenure, he has successfully implemented a Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) in three major cases against a furious gang member.
“I consider women safety and their problem as one of the primary tasks. I have worked with Maharashtra Women Cell for three years as DIG,” said Ranjan.
Ranjan. He has also requested the higher authorities to build a police station to connect Airoli and Ghonsali after there was an increase in crimes.
