I have been committed to serving the nation- Sharad Pawar
11 Dec 2015.
Speech of NCP President Sarad Pawar.
Respected President of India Shri Pranab Mukharjee, Respected Vice President of India Shri Muhammed Hamid Ansari, respected Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi , respected Lok Sabha Speaker Smt. Sumitra Mahajan, respected former Prime Minister of India Shri Manmohan Singh, and all the respected members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, ladies and gentlemen :
I feel extremely privileged and satisfied today. I have completed 75 years of my life and approximately 50 years of my political life and on this occasion it gives me great pleasure to be here in front of many of India’s eminent personalities. I do not know how worthy am I or how much have I served this nation, but the presence of dignitaries like you’ll gives me confidence that my efforts have been recognized and acknowledged. In 1967 I was first elected as an MLA of Vidhan Sabha and since then I have been committed to serving the nation. This routine of serving the nation hasn’t been broken even for a day. Therefore, I would like to thank the people in Baramati who have trusted me and have always been my support system and because of whom I can enjoy this privilege. On this occasion I would also like to remember the late Yashwantrao Balwantrao Chauhan, my political guide. He was brave freedom fighter, efficient administrator and an extremely impacting parliamentarian. He will always remain my inspiration. He taught me how to have a deep understanding of a given subject before participating in a debate or discussion. I also learnt about the significance of the need for clarity of thoughts and thoughts that are favorable for the nation from him. I also learnt about parliamentary norms and boundaries from him. I have never in my entire political career made an aggressive statement. I give the credit of this political behavior to the late Chavan sir. It is a result of his teachings that I got an award for being the best parliamentarian in 2007.
Ladies and gentlemen I take pride in the fact that our country with a population of 125 crores, a multi lingual and multi religious country is the world largest democracy, which the entire world considers as an emerging super power. Our country is country of endless possibilities. I believe that India will maintain its secular, tolerant and liberal fabric as it is proceeding towards development. My experience tells me that socio economic development is the only way through which poverty can be eradicated. Therefore, development has always been my first priority while working for Maharashtra as well as India. It is only through development that we can achieve happiness and satisfaction.
In this 75th year of my life I remember my parents. My mother use to emphasize on women’s education. I also personally believe that without education development and creating a good citizen is not possible. Also for the betterment of the society women’s education and women empowerment are of utmost importance.
I do not want to extend today’s speech. On this occasion I also wanted to share my experiences and indulge in self examination. I am glad that all you dignitaries graced the occasion by your presence, I sincerely want to thank you all for this. I also know that you want to listen to the president, so I am concluding my speech. Thank you.
Jai Hind.
